Seven Wonders of the ancient  and new world!

Hello there boys and girls!
In the Antiquity, greeks historians selected several monuments around the known world. They thought that these marvelous buildings were the summum of the human expresion and art. Some of them disappeared a long time ago, for example: 

  • The colossus of Rhodes  
  • The lighthouse of Alexandria

Other ones remain throught centuries, for example:
  • The pyramid of Gizah


We are doing a special activity in class about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, but you have to know that, nowadays, a lot of artists, historians, philosophers, etc... think that there are another Seven Wonders of actual world......

  1. Are you capable to find the New Seven Wonders? Find out each one if you can and write something about them.
  2. Which other wonders, monuments or buildings that you know do you include to this list?

    1.-Chichén Itzá, en México:Was a large pre-Columbian city built by the Maya civilization. The archaeological site is located in the municipality of Tinum, in the Mexican state of Yucatán.

    Petra, en Jordania: is an important archaeological site in Jordan, and the ancient capital of the Nabataean Kingdom. The name comes from the Greek Petra πέτρα which means stone, and his name is perfectly adequate, it is not a city built of stone, but literally, carved and sculpted in stone.

    1.- Chichén Itzá: Is in Mexico. Is a important and renowned relic of the Mayan civilization, the main buildings there remain correspond to the time of the decline of the Mayan culture known to archaeologists as the post-classic period.
    2.-Coliseo de Roma: Is an amphitheater of the Roman Empire period, built in the first century in the center of the city of Rome. Originally called the Flavian Amphitheatre (Amphitheatre Flavium), in honor of the Flavian dynasty of emperors who built it, and called Colosseum became a large statue located next to it, the Colossus of Nero, not now preserved.
    3.-Cristo Redentor: It's in Brazil. It's a image of 30 metres tall of Jesus of Nazareth with open arms looking the city and port of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
    4.-Gran Muralla China: It was built from the 5th centuary A.C to the 18th Century B.C.to protect the northern border of the Chinese empire during the successive imperial dynasties of the attacks of the nomadic Xiongnu of Mongolia and Manchuria.
    5.-Machu Picchu: It means Old Mountain. It's first name was Picchu or Picho.
    Machu Picchu would have been one of the vacation homes of Pachacutec (first Inca emperor, 1438-1470).
    6.-The settlement of Petra is located in a narrow valley, east of the Arava valley that stretches from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. The most famous of Petra remains are undoubtedly its buildings carved into the rock of the valley (hemispeos), in particular, the buildings known as the Khazneh (Treasury) and the Deir (the Monastery).
    Founded in antiquity to the late seventh century. C. by the Edomites, was occupied in the sixth century. C. by the Nabataeans who made it prosper due to its location on the caravan route that carried the incense, spices and other luxury goods between Egypt, Syria, Arabia and the southern Mediterranean.
